Sides are the cheapest decision on a barbecue tray and the one people put the least thought into. At Mission BBQ everything is made in house and priced individually, so the choice is entirely yours — here is every option, what it costs, what it weighs in calories, and which ones are actually worth the money.

Every side, priced
Ranked, honestly
1. Maggie's Mac-N-Cheese — $3.34
The one people come back for. It is baked rather than stirred, so it has a genuine crust on top instead of the loose, glossy texture most chains serve. Heaviest side on the menu at 320 calories and worth every one of them.
2. Cornbread — $0.99
The cheapest item on the entire Mission BBQ menu and the best value on it. Slightly sweet, dense enough to mop up sauce, and it costs less than a third of anything else on the board. Order two.
3. Baked Beans with Brisket — $3.29
Actual chopped brisket in the beans, not brisket flavouring. Sweet, smoky, and the side that pairs best with pulled pork.
4. Cold Slaw — $3.14
Creamy and lightly sweet. Its job is to cut the fat of the meat, and it does that — which is why it beats fries alongside anything rich. Lightest of the real sides at 150 calories.
5. Green Beans and Bacon — $3.24
Cooked Southern-style: soft, salty, not a crisp vegetable. If you were expecting steamed green beans this will read as overcooked. It is not — that is the dish.
6. Fresh Cut Fries — $3.19
Cut in house, which is more than most chains do. They are also the side that travels worst — order them only if you are eating in.
7. Potato Salad and Corn Casserole — seasonal
Both rotate in and out. The corn casserole is closer to a dessert than a vegetable and is the more interesting of the two.
Which sides contain meat
This catches people out, and the menu does not make it obvious:
- Baked Beans with Brisket — contains beef
- Green Beans and Bacon — contains pork
Everything else on the side list is meat-free. For a vegetarian tray, the workable combination is mac-n-cheese, cold slaw, cornbread and a side salad — around $10.96 and a legitimate meal. The allergen guide covers the rest.
How sides are priced into a meal
Sandwiches and Meat Market plates at Mission BBQ come with nothing. You either buy sides individually or take a combo upgrade:
The XXL Combo at $4.00 is the clear winner — two sides and a drink for less than the two sides alone would cost. There is no scenario where buying two individual sides plus a fountain drink beats it.
Catering sizes
Every side is available by the pint (feeds about three) or quart (feeds about six):
Full planning tables are in the Mission BBQ catering guide.
What to order
Two sides with a sandwich: Maggie's Mac-N-Cheese and cold slaw. The mac is the reason to be there and the slaw stops the tray being uniformly rich. Add a cornbread regardless — it is a dollar.
